Nine Required Items:

Item 1:      Council Officers Report Form to be sent to the State Coordinator, Sandra   
                Weismantel
, PO Box 331, Herreid, SD  57632 by April 15th 2005.

 Item: 2:    At least two local officers or designees must attend both days of Summer

                 Leadership (July 22-23) and Winter Leadership (Jan. 21 or 28) meetings.

                  Attendance is monitored.

 

Item 3:        Submit the plan developed at Summer Leadership for promoting member-

                  ship and council activities by July 22-23, 2005.

 

Item 4:         Submit 4 copies of your image brochure or video that includes your local

                   council’s mission statement, activities, calendar of events or program by

                   September 15, 2005.

 

Item 5:         Email your membership list and snail mail membership report form and

                   Check showing State and IRA dues, using format given by the State

                   Membership Director.  Mail these to Nancy Stephenson, 5704 Pioneer

                   Circle, Rapid City, SD  57702 by October 1, 2005.

 

Item 6:         Submit a name to preside at the SD Reading Conference or a door prize to

                   Dr. Maurine Richardson at Winter Leadership, January 21, 2006.

 

Item 7:         Submit a door prize for the Membership Booth at the SDRC Conference to

                   Nancy Stephenson at Winter Leadership, January 21, 2006.

 

Item 8:          Submit at least one relevant article for the state newsletter to Gloria Keck

                    by Winter Leadership, January 21, 2006.

 

Item 9:          Submit minutes of two local council meetings held between August 2005           

                    and January 2006.  Submit by January 21, 2006.

OPTIONAL ITEMS:  Councils must complete seven of the following items.

 Opt. 1:         Commit to provide 1 dozen decorations for the SDRC Christmas Tree at

                    the State Capitol (July 22-23, 2005).  Send to Pierre Area Reading Council

                    by November 1, 2005.

 

Opt. 2:          Submit a copy of your local council’s newsletter by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 3:          Submit a local project that encourages reading on an international level by

                     January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 4:          Submit one name in nomination for a SDRC Literacy Award.  Send to

                    Candace McKay, 20725 Oak Ridge Road, Sturgis, SD  57785 by

                    January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 5:          Submit one name in nomination for the SDRC Reading Teacher Award to

                    Candace McKay, 20725 Oak Ridge Road, Sturgis, SD  57785 by January

                    21, 2006.

 

Opt. 6:          Submit your reading log for “Between the Covers” to Judy Gram by

                    January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 7:          At least one local council member must submit a presentation/session for

                    The SDRC Conference to Dr. Maurine Richardson, 902 Ridgecrest Drive,

                    Vermillion, SD  57069 by January 9, 2006.

 

Opt. 8:          Submit up to three regular and three modified local winners for the Young

                    Authors Award to Cheri Isaacson, 61 Taylor Ave., Deadwood, SD  57732

                    by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 9:          Submit three local winners for the Young Illustrators Award to Janet

                    Vansickel, 2402 Fox Rd, Sturgis, SD  57785 by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 10:        Submit three local winners for the Reading Challenge Award to Sandra

                    Weismantel, PO Box 331, Herreid, SD  57632 by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 11:        Submit at least one nominee for a SDRC State Committee to Dr. Lila

                    Morris, 815 S. State St. #7, Aberdeen, SD  57401 by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 12:        Submit at least one nominee for a SDRC State Office to Candace McKay,

                    20725 Oak Ridge Road, Sturgis, SD  57785 by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 13:        Submit a summary of a poetry writing project at the local level to Cheri

                    Isaacson, 61 Taylor Ave., Deadwood, SD  57732 by January 21, 2006.

 

 

Opt. 14:        Participate in a Literacy Day Activity and display at the State Conference

                    in Pierre (International Literacy Day, Sept. 8, 2005; SD Literacy Day, Jan.

                    27, 2006; Read Across America Day, March 2, 2006).

 

Opt. 15:        Provide a speaker for a parent or professional organization meeting or

                    conference as a representative of the SDRC by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 16:        Provide a summary of a politically pro-active project by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 17:        Submit your plan in forming a partnership with an organization to promote

                    literacy by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 18:        Submit OR use at least one appropriate name (not a repeat of previous

                    years) for the SDRC Literacy Resources and Speaker’s Bureau.  Send to

                    Dr. Margaret Miller, PO Box 482, Vermillion, SD  57069 by January 21,

                    2005.

 

Opt. 19:        Participate in the Prairie Pasque or Prairie Bud Reading Contest (submit

                    Approval by January 21, 2006 and exhibit at the State Conference in

                    Pierre.

 

Opt. 20:        Submit a project of your choice that is not included above.  This needs to

                    Be approved by the SDRC Executive Board.  Contact Dr. Lila Morris or

                    Dr. Maurine Richardson by January 21, 2006.

 

Opt. 21:        Participate in the Teachers as Readers Project.  Submit results to Dr. Vicki

                    Sterling, 524, Ashmount Rd, Madison, SD  57042 by January 21, 2006.

 

The items that are due on January 21, 2006 may be brought to Winter Leadership in Chamberlain on that date.  In the event of bad weather, the items may be brought to the meeting, which will be held the following Saturday, January 28, 2006, same time and place, or the entries may be mailed to the Committee Chairperson.

 

Be sure to attach the correct label on each item you submit.  This will eliminate confusion as to what has been turned in.
