Teachers As Readers

Teachers As Readers challenges teachers to read and record the books they read during the school year.

SDRC Teacher of  The Year

The South Dakota Teacher of the Year award is awarded annually to the teacher who demonstrates enthusiasm for reading/language arts, impacts colleagues, willingly share ideas and methods with other educators, possesses strong content and pedagogical knowledge in the areas of reading and language arts and continually assesses progress.  

SDRC Literacy Award

The South Dakota Literacy Award may be awarded to an individual or to a program in the community that promotes reading, literacy and/or language arts.  The award is based on effectiveness, impact on education, enthusiasm for reading and literacy and contributions to literacy programs and lifelong reading.

SDRC Grant Application


All local councils affiliated with South Dakota Reading Council are eligible to apply for the grant.  The intent of this fund is to supplement local councils to help develop council programs that promote the teaching of literacy for members, students, parents, etc.  Awards will be contingent on review of the application by the Grand Committee.  For more information, contact Pam Leib.
