International Reading
Association
The International Reading Association is a professional membership organization dedicated to promoting high quality levels of literacy for all by improving the quality of reading instruction, disseminating research and information about reading, and encouraging the lifetime reading habit. Our members include classroom teachers, reading specialists, librarians, media specialists, consultants, administrators, supervisors, university faculty, researchers, psychologists, and parents. With members and affiliates in 99 countries, our network extends to more than 350,000 people worldwide.
Members of the International Reading Association gain access to a broad range of professional meetings, publications, and other resources, designed to further five goals:
To enhance and improve professional development of reading educators worldwide
To provide leadership in support of research, policy, and practice that improves reading instruction and supports the best interests of all learners and reading professionals
To establish and strengthen national and international alliances with a wide range of organizations, including governmental, nongovernmental, and community agencies, businesses, and industries
To encourage and support research at all levels of reading and language arts education
To promote informed decision-making by reading professional, policy makers, and the public
To identify, focus, and provide leadership on significant literacy issues
The International Reading Association provides the tools—and the influence—to accelerate solutions to literacy problems throughout the world. Come join US!
