Dr. Steven Layne~
Dr. Layne is sure to inspire as he shares his passion for reading.  Steven is a literacy consultant, keynote speaker, former middle school teacher, and author of young adult literature such as the This Side of Paradise which received the Hal Clement Award for Best New Science Fiction Novel for Young Adults in the U.S. He also captures younger audiences with his many picture books, and touches teachers’ hearts with his book, Life’s Literacy Lessons. *Mike Artell~
Mike is an experienced speaker, author & illustrator, cartoonist, musician, and consultant.  The number of books he has authored and illustrated is extensive.  The picture book, Petite Rouge-A Cajun Red Riding Hood was awarded the 2004 Louisiana Young Reader's Choice Award, ranked #5 on American Booksellers Assn. 2002 list of the Top 76 books for kids, named a Notable Children’s Trade Book by the National Society for the Social Studies & the Children's Book Council, and recognized as a 2002 Honor Book by Storytelling World Magazine. PETITE ROUGE is now a stage play! Mike’s other works include teacher resources, tongue twisters, cartooning, and small beginning-reader books. *Adrian Fogelin~Back by popular demand!
Attendees loved her presentations last year, and we are so pleased that she’s returning to Pierre for another SDRC conference. Fogelin’s five novels, Anna Casey’s Place in the World, Crossing Jordan, Sister Spider Knows All, The Big Nothing, and My Brother’s Hero are recipients of numerous awards and are written with honesty, warmth and a kid-brand of humor, guaranteed to captivate young readers. Look for Fogelin’s first young adult novel this fall entitled, The Real Question, a story about a boy who tries to escape from the responsibilities of his overachieving life, and gains a new understanding of the dangers of neglecting his connections and commitments to others. *Jean Patrick~
Always a South Dakota favorite!    Jean Patrick inspires attendees and students regularly in South Dakota as she is a featured author and speaker.  The story, The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth has been enjoyed by many children and teachers. Kari McLaughlin~
Kari is a new and budding author from Gillette, Wyoming.  She has published one book already and has 5 more adventures in the works to be published by our conference!!  Her first book, My Adventure With A Dinosaur, is an interactive and educational book geared for young readers. *Gary Harbo~

Valerie Ellery~
Ellery is a National Reading Consultant and the International Reading Association author of Creating Strategic Readers.  Her book is organized around the five essential component of reading instruction and offers techniques to activate strategic reading. Valerie is an experienced keynote speaker and has presented at many IRA conventions and workshops.  We are excited to have Valerie Ellery as a part of our voyage. 

 


Dr. Tim Rasinski~
Dr. Rasinski is from Kent State, Ohio and the author of The Fluent Reader and many other  professional titles.  We are excited that Dr. Rasinski has agreed to present at our conference via video-conference on Friday.

©        Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve~Virgina Driving Hawk is a celebrated South Dakota author.  In 2000 she was awarded the National Humanities Medal.  Sneve’s books span the ages as she has written for children, young adults, and adults.  We are excited that she’s agreed to present at this year’s conference.
